This decision from the IRS is the correct and just policy, and is a huge victory for Suffolk County taxpayers. Saddling Long Islanders with an unexpected bill come tax season was always unacceptable. The federal government should never be shooting from the hip when it comes to hard-earned tax dollars. I am proud of our efforts with the IRS, Suffolk County and across all levels to find a workable solution to resolve this situation.
These 25 young men and women represent our communities’ best and brightest. Each and every one of them has exhibited superior academic achievement, leadership and unwavering character, and their decision to serve our nation by attending one of our nation’s service academies make Long Island and our country so proud. It’s an honor to nominate these fine young men and women, and I have no doubt that they all have incredibly bright futures.
I want to congratulate Lawrence Chai from Mt. Sinai, New York, on being selected to participate in the National Youth Orchestra of the United States. Each year NYO-USA selects the most talented young musicians from across our country to participate in their program and I wish Lawrence all the best as he pursues what is sure to be an exceptionally bright future.
