Funding would enable our various school-connected mentoring programs throughout the 24th Congressional District and the North Texas area to effectively rebound from the impact that COVID-19 had on school & community partnerships.

Justification: At a time when so many students have become disengaged in their education, mentors are powerful influences, encouraging their mentees’ attendance, attention & effort, and getting them back on pathways to best realize their potential. The BBBS mentoring program is an evidenced based preventative measure that breaks the cycle of incarceration, as well. Leveraging tax payer dollars in prevention and strength-building saves millions of dollars in the long run.

Project Description: The new Pediatric Mental Health Initiative formerly known as the BHIG led by Children’s Health, in close collaboration with the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute, is an innovative and collaborative approach to developing capacity within pediatric primary care to detect and treat behavioral health conditions

Justification: Children’s Health is the leading pediatric health care system in North Texas and one of the largest pediatric health care providers in the nation. In 2020, Children’s Health launched a multifaceted response to the mental health crisis that included integrating an electronic bed search tool for inpatient placement to psychiatric facilities, as well as the launch of a mental health coordinator program to increase efficiencies in transferring patients from direct patient care to inpatient psychiatric care. Together, these initiatives decreased ED throughput times for patients with mental health chief complaints by 29% from January 2021 to year end and reduced the percentage of patients in the ED for more than 24 hours from 24% in April 2021 to 12% by year end.

Project Description: To address this need for asset renewal and replacement, this project will replace the 1970s left-hand exit flyover bridges and ramp exits with more intuitive, functional, safer and efficient right-hand exits.

Justification This project is a good use of taxpayer dollars because it will replace the aging critical infra-structure and replace the bridges that will have double the service life of the existing bridges and incorporate innovative construction practices and sustainable materials. Additionally, this project will create 1,000 good paying jobs and increase the economic growth of the North Texas region.

Justification This project is a good use of taxpayer dollars because it will replace the aging critical infra-structure which will improve energy efficiency and improve the air quality in the North Central Texas nonattainment area. Additionally, this project will create 1,400 good paying jobs and increase the economic growth of the North Texas region.

Project Description: would like to be considered for the Community Project Funding request. The NTECC would like to be considered for 10 million dollars in funding for a new building for a 9-1-1 communications center

Justification: The NTECC is a non-profit that supports four cities 9-1-1 communications, Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, and Farmers Branch. The center will support First Responders and more than 225,000 citizens.

Project Description: Renovating the Airport YMCA to a stand-alone Childcare/Preschool Center. The City of Bedford is near completion on a new Bedford Community Center and the YMCA will be managing the facility. With both centers so close in proximity, the Airport YMCA would be utilized as a much needed affordable, quality Childcare/Preschool facility.

Justification Infant/preschool childcare is at an all-time high with working parents paying rates that rival college tuition. The average American family would have to spend 13% of their annual income in order to obtain quality childcare, more than food and in some cases their mortgage or college tuition. The $2 million investment in the Northeast Community will bring quality-rated and affordable childcare/early learning programs to many low-income families in the Bedford area.
