Press Release

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Mike Doyle (PA-18) released the following statement after the House voted to approve H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act, and send it to the Senate for consideration.

“The Build Back Better Act would improve the lives of most Americans in a number of ways, so I was proud to vote for it today.

“Among the most significant provisions in the bill, for example, the Build Back Better Act would help millions of Americans by lowering child care costs for most working families, establishing universal pre-K for 3- and 4-year-olds, extending the expanded Child Tax Credit for 40 million households – cutting child poverty in half. In addition, the Build Back Better Act would extend the expanded Earned Income Tax Credit for millions of low-income workers, reduce the cost of higher education for millions of students, and expand access to high-quality home- and community-based care for millions of older adults and Americans with disabilities.

“With regard to making health care more affordable and expanding health insurance coverage, the Build Back Better Act would allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices, reduce premiums for 9 million Americans who buy their health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, and provide Medicaid coverage to 4 million Americans who are currently uninsured.

“The Build Back Better Act would also take important steps to curb climate change, investing $555 billion in eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning to clean energy production, zero-emission vehicles, and  emission-free industrial and manufacturing processes.

“Finally, the bill is paid for by changing the tax code to make big corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share.”
