WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Elaine Luria (VA-02), a former U.S. Navy Commander, this week secured a coveted seat on the influential House Armed Services Committee, where she will bring an experienced Hampton Roads military voice and perspective to national security issues.

“We rely on our brave Coast Guard to provide maritime safety, security, and stewardship,” Congresswoman Luria said. “Members of our maritime security service need to put food on the table, fill their gas tanks, and pay their rent or mortgage. They should never bear the burden of political breakdowns.”

WASHINGTON – Representatives Elaine Luria (VA-02), A. Donald McEachin (VA-04), and Walter B. Jones (NC-03) co-introduced the bipartisan Defend Our Coast Act to prohibit the Department of Interior from issuing leases for the exploration, development or production of oil or gas on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) in the Mid-Atlantic (Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Delaware). This is Rep. Luria’s first co-sponsorship of congressional legislation.
