With a district bordering Canada, Brian is a recognized leader on matters related to the US-Canadian relationship. In his roles as Co-chair of the Northern Border Caucus, Co-chair of Canada-US Inter-Parliamentary Group, and a member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, Brian seeks out opportunities to build our binational relationship, fighting for adequate staffing and systems to allow for the efficient flow of goods and people across the border.
Brian works to build safer neighborhoods through his support of the federal fire grant program, the Justice in Policing Act and common sense legislation to reduce gun violence including universal background checks.

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced that the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) has been awarded a Recovery Act grant totaling $2,234,070 from the Department of Homeland Security. The funds were provided through the Transit Security Grant Program (TSGP).
“This Recovery Act award will work to protect Western New York’s transit and metro operation, add resources to fight crime and put a greater police presence on the streets,” said Congressman Higgins.
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) voted with his colleagues in the House of Representatives to approve H.R. 3288, the Department of Transportation (DOT), and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for the fiscal year 2010. The bill provides $123.1 billion in critical transportation and housing investments.

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced that the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has been awarded a $294,000 federal grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation for the purchase of a hybrid bus.
“By replacing older, less efficient forms of transportation with newer technology we reduce costs, reduce our use of fossil fuel and reduce emissions leading to a better, cleaner community,” said Congressman Higgins.
Governor David A. Paterson and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Astrid C. Glynn today announced the release of the 2009 New York State Rail Plan, providing the first comprehensive update of the State’s rail strategy in 22 years and fulfilling a prerequisite for federal funding for rail capital improvement projects. The announcement was made at the Capital District Transportation Authority’s (CDTA) Rensselaer train station.
