Title: Mental Health 101 – Overview of Mental Health Issues in the Modern World

Summary: HUD and SAMHSA will launch their celebration of National Mental Health Awareness Month with an introduction and general overview of mental health issues post COVID-19. HUD’s Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman will kick off this first webinar in a four-part series that features Dr. Neeraj Gandotra, M.D. (SAMHSA's Chief Medical Officer) as the keynote speaker. Dr. Mary Roary, Ph.D., M.B.A. (SAMHSA's Director of the Office of Behavioral Health Equity) and Jayme Brown, M.P.A. (HUD’s Director of Community and Supportive Services) will moderate this webinar.

Title: 988 – What’s on the Horizon

Summary: SAMHSA and HUD will introduce SAMHSA’s new Suicide Prevention Hotline (988). The webinar will also address suicide prevention for youth and the BIPOC community, in addition to touching on substance use. SAMHSA’s Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Dr. Miriam E. Delphin-Rittmon and the White House's Senior Advisor for Public Health on the Domestic Policy Council Dr. Sejal Hathi, MD will present introductory remarks. Dr. Richard McKeon Ph.D., SAMHSA's Suicide Prevention Branch Chief will deliver the keynote speech. Dr. Mary Roary, PhD, MBA (SAMHSA's Director of the Office of Behavioral Health Equity) and Lewis Dorman, MS, MA (HUD’s Program Manager of the Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency [ROSS]) will moderate.

Title: The 5th Annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day Symposium

Summary: The National Council on Aging is proud to host the 5th annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day Symposium. This event is co-sponsored with the U.S. Administration for Community Living, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Registration is free and includes a full day of sessions on how to best meet the mental health needs of older adults. In partnership with Rush University’s E4 Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Disparities in Aging, NCOA will be offering continuing education credit for several professions.

Summary: HUD and SAMHSA will focus on reducing stigma associated with mental health, to encourage those with potential mental health issues to seek professional help. This webinar will also concentrate on the BIPOC community, addressing stigma specific to these populations.

Title: Now What? – Mental Health Issues in Post COVID America

Summary: SAMHSA and HUD will examine how to address mental health issues in post-COVID America. Besides the physical toll the pandemic took on Americans, it has also greatly affected our nation’s mental health. This webinar will discuss how to handle and move past multiple co-occurring pandemics, using a mental health focus on substance use disorder, housing, work, education, and transportation among other relevant topics. HUD's Secretary – Marcia Fudge and SAMHSA’s Chief of Staff – Sonia Chessen will kick it off, then HUD’s Senior Advisor for Housing and Services – Dr. Richard Cho will follow, afterwards SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) Public Health Advisor – Dr. Christopher McKinney will give SAMHSA's introductory remarks, then SAMHSA's CMHS Government Project Officer – Lieutenant Commander Katie Hager and SAMHSA’s Director of the Prevention, Traumatic Stress and Special Programs Division – Dr. Melinda Baldwin will deliver the keynote speech.
