Hailing From the State of North Carolina

A native of North Carolina, Alfred Moore fought as a captain in the First North Carolina Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He served in a variety of government roles after the war, most notably as the state’s attorney general from 1782 to 1791. Considered one of the top lawyers in the state, President John Adams appointed Moore to the Supreme Court upon the death of fellow North Carolinian, James Iredell. Moore’s tenure was cut short due to ill health and he resigned in 1804 at the age of 48, having served three years and authored only one opinion.
