As China becomes a greater threat, working with allies like Japan is key to defending freedom and maintaining the global order. I applaud Japan for increasing its defense spending to 2% of GDP within the next 5 years. Investing in defense now is how we deter future conflict.

Senator Mitt Romney
@SenatorRomney
I'm pleased to see this year's defense bill overwhelmingly pass the Senate. This year’s legislation includes protections against threats from China and Russia, measures to bolster our national defense and support our troops, and additional security assistance for Ukraine. It also includes measures which will decrease our dependence on foreign adversaries like China when it comes to our critical mineral supply.
Importantly, the NDAA also includes several measures which will benefit Utah, like my legislation to help save the Great Salt Lake amid historic low levels and a provision to bring a passport office to Salt Lake City. Our state is rapidly expanding as a center for global commerce and tourism and is home to thousands of Latter-day Saints who annually embark on worldwide religious missions, and I am proud to continue working to see that our state gets a passport agency to better serve the needs of Utahns.
