WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement after voting against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s debt ceiling increase proposal:

“While disguised as a means to put our country on the road to fiscal responsibility this plan does not offer a long-term solution to our financial problems. This bill would have led to the largest debt ceiling increase in American history while failing to address the core problem; out-of-control Washington spending.”

“The American people are looking to Washington to preserve and protect Social Security and Medicare, restore confidence in the markets and rein in reckless spending. We can and must solve our debt crisis and that means working together. I am confident we can find common ground in order to avoid default and disruptions in services to our programs.”

Reid did not reach the 60-vote threshold to get cloture for his bill.
