Arctic Blast and Major Winter Storm Expected This Week

A surge of Arctic air behind a cold front crossing the U.S. through the week will bring widespread, dangerous wind chill temperatures through much of the central U.S. and a potential flash freeze from the mid-South to the East Coast. A major winter storm will form on this front bringing heavy snow and high winds creating blizzard conditions for parts of the Plains into the Great Lakes. Read More >

The International Affairs Office (IA) coordinates all international cooperation for the National Weather Service (NWS) and is located within the Office of the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services. Mr. Ken Graham, who is the NWS Director, also serves as the Permanent Representative for the United States with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

IA supports the US Permanent Representative in coordinating US participation in WMO Technical Commissions, Regional Associations, and Executive Council. IA program analysts manage bilateral relations, implement projects, oversee the travel of NWS experts, represent the NWS at international meetings, and coordinate with other federal agencies and non-governmental partners. Coordinates and monitors bilateral agreements for cooperation in meteorology and hydrology between the United States and other countries

World Meteorological Organization

Supports the Permanent Representative (PR) of the United States to the World Meteorological Organization of the United Nations and participates in technical commissions

Foreign Travel and Visitors

  • Manages NWS foreign travel process
  • Coordinates NWS international training program including Tropical Desk, Africa Desk, and Pacific Desk
