Warrior Training Advancement Course

 

Warrior Training Advancement Course (WARTAC) is a skill-bridge education and employment opportunity for Wounded Warriors and transitioning Service members to complete a national-level VBA training program while still on active duty.

Successful completion of this training program leads to an employment opportunity at 55 of VBA’s 56 Regional Offices around the country.

WARTAC is open to Wounded Warriors and active-duty Service members in the transition process. The program provides participants with an opportunity to learn the skill set of a VA Rating Veteran Service Representative (RVSR) or Veteran Service Representative (VSR). The duration of the VSR class is 6 week and the duration of the RVSR class is 11 weeks. 

Position Details

Rating Veteran Service Representative (RVSR)

  • Analyzes claims to determine if diseases and/or injuries were incurred or aggravated by military service in the line of duty for purposes of VA benefits.
  • Determine service-connection percentages of claimed disabilities.
  • Serves as the primary contact for assigning disability evaluations.

Veteran Service Representative (VSR)

  • Explains benefit programs and entitlement criteria, conducts interviews, identifies issues, gathers relevant evidence; adjudicate claims and inputs data necessary to generate the award and notification letter to the Veteran, describing the decision and the reason for it.
  • Serves as the primary contact for the Veteran and his/ her representative concerning VA compensation claims.

Eligibility

WARTAC is open to Wounded Warriors and Active-Duty Service members in the transition process that meet the 180 requirement(s). VRA is an excepted authority that allows agencies, to appoint program graduates directly into positions within the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA).

Qualifications

To qualify for these positions, applicants must meet the following requirements by the closing date of the announcement. If you are unsure as to whether you meet the criterion and/ or if you need résumé assistance, see your transition manager.

RVSR GS-09/12

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-07), or
  • A master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field related to the duties of this position; or
  • A combination of specialized experience and graduate education

VSR GS-07/10

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05), or
  • One full year of graduate-level education, or
  • A bachelor’s degree, GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (transcripts are required); or
  • A combination of specialized experience and graduate education
