Demographic Vaccination Data

DEMOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN OF COVID-19 VACCINATIONS

The vaccination data below reflects all New Yorkers by race and ethnicity, age, and sex. Data is available statewide, by region, and by county.

* Race/ethnicity: demographic data is self-reported by vaccinated individuals. This classifies as mutually exclusive categories where Hispanic or Latino, regardless of race, is classified as Hispanic or Latino. The demographic data shown excludes individuals who declined to report, records where data is not available, and those who answered “other” or with two or more races. That percentage is provided at the bottom. Because of this, these represent lower bound estimate.

**Sex: This chart breaks down vaccination progress for males and females. Due to federal Census data collection methods, information on other gender identities is not available and is not represented here.

DEFINITIONS

People with at least one vaccine dose represents the total number of individuals who have received at least one dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.

People with primary series represents the total number of individuals who have completed the recommended series of a given COVID-19 vaccine product (e.g., 2 doses of the 2-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1 dose of the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine).

People up to date represents the total number of individuals who have followed and completed the all COVID-19 vaccinations, including the bivalent booster, as appropriate per age and clinical recommendations (CDC At-A-Glance COVID-19 Vaccination Schedules).

% of total individuals vaccinated by race and ethnicity is the number of vaccinated New Yorkers who identify as a given race or ethnicity as a percent of 2018 Census estimates of the total population in each race or ethnicity group. Mutually exclusive race and ethnicity categories were utilized where Hispanics regardless of race were classified as Hispanic.

% of population vaccinated by gender is the number of vaccinated New Yorkers who identify as male or female as a percent of 2018 Census estimates of the total male and female population.

% of population vaccinated by age is the number of vaccinated New Yorkers in each age group as a percent of 2018 Census estimates of the total population in each age group.

Region and County are based on the location where the vaccinated individual resides.

METHODOLOGICAL NOTES
  • Vaccination data is based on data reported in the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) and the New York City Citywide Immunization Registry (NYC CIR). This includes limited data on vaccines administered through Federal entities (Veterans Health Administration) or performed outside of New York State to New York residents, and will not be reflective of every dose administered to New York State residents in those settings.
  • As people receive their booster dose months after the primary series, if an individual moves or crosses to a different jurisdiction for an immunization, that dose may be incorrectly counted as a first dose, resulting in an under-estimating of persons who are up to date.
  • As of June 24, 2022, this dashboard will be updated weekly on Fridays to align with CDC’s data refresh schedule.
