Montrose Settlements Restoration Program: Restoring Natural Resources harmed by DDT and PCBs
DDTs and PCBs dumped in the ocean decades ago continue to contaminate natural resources in the Southern California Bight. The Montrose Settlements Restoration Program (MSRP) is taking action to restore those resources. Click here for more information.
Much of the DDTs and PCBs still found in sediments around the Palos Verdes Peninsula entered the area through a wastewater outfall just offshore of White Point, pictured here.

Clicking the link above will automatically link you to the Montrose Settlements Restoration Program site administered by the lead Trustee Agency, NOAA, through their Damage Assessment and Restoration Program (DARP) Southwest Region.

What's New

2004 Bald Eagle Release:
12 juvenile bald eagles were released on Santa Cruz Island in Summer 2004 as a part of a 5-year feasibility study. The hope is that these birds, located farther away from the DDTs that continue to cause egg shell thinning in bald eagles on Catalina Island, will enjoy greater reproductive success. To date, 35 eagles have been released on Santa Cruz, and 14 remain on the Northern Channel Islands. Check our photo gallery.
