U.S. Joins “Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development” Partnership
On September 7, 2004, Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky announced that the United States had joined the Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (Seed) Initiative.The Seed Initiative, led by IUCN, the UN Environment Program, and the UN Development Program, with support from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, and the Norwegian Ministry of Environment Norway, encourages community level partnership action in support of sustainable development. Addressing a recent conference of the Council of Environmental Deans and Directors, Jonathan Margolis, the State Department's Special Representative for Sustainable Development, discussed the history and future of sustainable development partnerships. GISD was recognized for its efforts to promote spatial data infrastructure development in Africa. More

White Water to Blue Water Partnership Conference, March 22-26, 2004
The White Water to Blue Water conference conducted on March 22-26 resulted in the creation or advancement of nearly 100 partnerships to promote integrated watershed and marine ecosystem-based management. The next task is to harness the enthusiasm that was generated at the week’s meeting and translate it into further action. In order to advance the goals of the nearly 100 partnerships, an international steering committee will continue to meet periodically. More

International Forum on Partnerships for Sustainable Development: Opening Remarks by Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs Dobriansky
The United States participated in the International Forum on Partnerships for Sustainable Development, hosted by the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Territory, in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The event took place March 4-6 in Rome, Italy. Over 500 representatives from the private sector, civil society, and government participated in a series of panel and interactive sessions. The forum also included a partnership exposition. More
