Cultural
Resources Stewardship Stewards are
CARETAKERS and GUARDIANS. America's cultural resources -- buildings, landscapes, archeological sites, ethnographic resources, objects and documents, structures and districts -- embody a rich heritage of human experiences and cultural identities. They provide information about people from the past and establish important connections to the present. They tell a compelling story of our earlier nations, states, and communities and help us understand how we got where we are today. America's cultural resources also provide evidence about important historical trends and events, reflect people's everyday lives and significant accomplishments, and illustrate distinctive architectural, landscape, and engineering designs. WHAT WE DO as Cultural Resources Stewards (or Caretakers) is work to be sure that America's cultural resources are carefully identified, evaluated, documented, registered, preserved, and interpreted. WHY DO WE CARE? So these important places, sites and objects, and documents can continue to convey their important history about people from the past to present and future generations of Americans. We're working hard to make sure that you can visit real historic places to see and learn about what people from the past created, used, and valued and the meaning they have to all of us today.
