U.S. Ambassador Hails Mexican Capture of One of FBI’s Most Wanted
The Federal Investigative Police arrested one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives in Veracruz, and he was placed on a plane to the United States accompanied by two FBI agents. Ambassador Garza praised the arrest, saying “This success is another example of how close cooperation on law enforcement between the United States and Mexico yields results that make both of countries safer.”(07/16/04)

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled June 7 that President Bush can open U.S. highways to Mexican trucks, bringing the United States into compliance with a provision of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). (06/07/04)

US Government Donates Tuberculosis Control Equipment to Veracruz
Ambassador Garza and Veracruz Secretary of Health Mauro Loyo launched a new phase in the US/Mexico bilateral collaborative tuberculosis (TB) program today with a donation by the United States government of $176, 000 worth of TB control equipment to the state of Veracruz.

Universidad Veracruzana in Partnership with U.S. Universities
Amb. Garza met with Veracruzana University Rector Dr. Víctor A. Arredondo as UV was recently selected as one of the 13 new TIES University Partnerships, and to date has received U.S. government funding totaling over USD$490,000.

Ambassador Garza Showcases Contemporary Art
"I believe that art leads us by expanding our vision and views of the world. Artists lead and gradually the rest of society and governments follow," said Ambassador Garza. "I wanted the collection to reflect the dynamism and convergence of U.S.-Mexican relations. I feel the outstanding works on display do just that."

Ambassador Garza Sees Justice Done in Murder Case of San Antonio Express-News Journalist
On April 26, the Jalisco Supreme Court sentenced two defendants to 20 years in prison for the December 1998 murder of San Antonio Express-News writer Philip True. Ambassador Garza remarked: "While Philip's death is still deeply felt, there can be some satisfaction that those who took his life are finally being brought to justice by the Mexican judicial system."
