U.S. to Send Aircraft to Protect Crops and Battle Locusts in Africa

The U.S. Government will dispatch six aircraft, pesticides and logistical equipment to protect crops and fight locust invasions in West Africa, a senior U.S. official announced at a press conference in Dakar on September 29. 

 

Roger Winter, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau of Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), said Washington has approved $3.2 million (F.CFA 1.71 billion) in immediate assistance to protect crops as part of a regional approach to combat the locusts.   Complete text >>
