THE DROP BOX / DHL APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Certain individuals may be qualified to use the drop box program, which generally allows a visa to be issued without a personal interview. Qualified applicants include individuals who:

• are age 80 or older;
• are minors age of 14, with at least one parent who has previously traveled to the U.S.

These applicants may submit their visa applications, passports, bank fee receipts, and supporting documents at the Embassy Monday through Thursday, between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Passports are returned the next day, excluding Friday, at 3:00 p.m. Submission of documents through the drop box does not ensure visa issuance. In some cases, a consular officer may request that an applicant come to the Consular Section in Bucharest for an interview.

DHL
Individuals who qualify for the drop box may also use our DHL Visa service. Applicants must pay the application fee at the bank and then take their passport, application form, supporting documents, and bank fee receipt to the nearest DHL service center. DHL will deliver these items to the Embassy and return the applicant's passport to them once the Consular Section has processed the application. The cost of this service is 20 euros plus VAT.
