IWMF Fellowship Program for International Women Journalists

DESCRIPTION: The IWMF Fellowship program offers women journalists from around the world the opportunity to receive on-the-job training with top media companies in the United States.

The four-month fellowship is available to women journalists living and working outside of the United States. U.S. and international journalists working in the United States are not eligible. One fellow will be selected for 2005 for a fellowship that will begin in March and end in June. An advisor selected by the host media company will work with the fellow to create a training plan for the length of the four-month fellowship.

The advisor will oversee and work with the fellow throughout the fellowship. The Fellow will do research, conduct interviews, file stories and perform other work expected of newsroom staff. She is also encouraged to take part in the community where the media company is located by attending community events and speaking with local groups about her home country.

The IWMF will work with both the fellow and the host media company throughout the fellowship. At the end of the fellowship, the fellow will evaluate the fellowship and create a plan to incorporate her new knowledge and skills when she returns home.

APPLICANTS: Women who apply to the program must:
* be dedicated to a career in journalism in the print, broadcast or Internet media.
* Have five or more years of journalism experience
* be currently working in an independent media organization
* show a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues when they return home
* have excellent written and verbal English skills

Completed application form and supporting documents must be submitted by mail, either regular post or international courier.
