MISSION STATEMENT

The American Embassy in Skopje protects and promotes U.S. interests and develops relations with Macedonia through contact with the Macedonian government, as well as with the country's business, labor, media, military and education communities.

Led by the United States Ambassador, the Embassy country team:

  • Explains and advocates the position of the U.S. government on bilateral and multilateral political, economic, security, social and scientific issues.
  • Reports to the U.S. government on positions taken by the Macedonian government and its leaders on issues of concern or interest to the United States.
  • Promotes expansion of U.S. trade and investment in Macedonia and seeks to assure that U.S. businesses and investors receive equitable treatment.
  • Provides protection and documentary services to United States citizens, visa and other documentary services to foreign nationals in Macedonia and Kosovo, and serves as liaison between U.S. federal agencies and their pensioners residing in Macedonia.
  • Facilitates cultural, media, and educational exchange between the United States and Macedonia.
  • Fosters the development of a strong military-to-military relationship between Macedonia and the United States, including maintaining contacts between Macedonian military services and their United States counterparts.

Areas of particular interest shared by both countries include the development of a new European security architecture, including the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the strengthening of democratic institutions and spread of stability throughout Southeastern Europe, through cooperation in the Stability Pact and other regionally targeted programs . The United States and Macedonia are also working together to develop strong trade and investment ties between the two nations, and to facilitate greater cooperation on regional political, economic, and environmental issues.
