Privacy and Security Statement

The U.S. Embassy, Stockholm Sweden, provides a wide range of Government and Public information. Providing this information requires the collection and dissemination of personal information. This information is specifically protected from disclosure by applicable Federal law, including, but not limited to, the Privacy Act of 1974, the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, and the Freedom of Information Act. It is also the policy of the U.S. Embassy, Stockholm Sweden to follow the Principles for Providing and Using Personal Information ("Privacy Principles"), published by the Information Infrastructure Task Force on June 6, 1995.

How we will handle information from your visit to our website:

The information we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site.

If you visit our site to read or download information, such as the European Washington File or press releases, we collect and store ONLY the following information about you:

  • The name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account).
  • The date and time you access our site.
  • The Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site.

If you send an electronic mail (E-mail) containing personal information:

You may decide to send us personal information, for example your mailing address, in an E-mail message requesting that information be sent to you. Information collected in this manner is used solely for responding to requests for information.

SITE MANAGEMENT:

Information from the above categories is also collected for statistical purposes. This Government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are then used for assessing the number of visitors to the different sections of our site. This information is used to determine what is of the most or least interest on our site. It is also used to identify system performance or problem areas.

SITE SECURITY:

To ensure that this Government and Public service remains available to all users, this computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. In such cases the information is forwarded to the proper Federal Law Enforcement authorities.

NOTE: We will not provide personal information about visitors to our web site, to third party organizations.
