American Information Resource Center (AIRC) is part of the Public Affairs Section of the Department of State at the American Consulate General in Karachi, which carries out a variety of activities designed to promote a better understanding of the people and democratic institutions of the United States.  Information Resource Center (IRC) provides access to current, comprehensive background on U.S. legislative, regulatory, economic, and social issues for Karachi, the whole of Sindh and Balochistan. 
 

Mission Statement
The mission of the IRC Karachi is to advance U.S. government policy goals through the development and promotion of effective information and outreach services to Pakistani high level contacts. These in turn influence policy and public opinion on issues of national security, regional stability, economic prosperity, global economic growth, U.S. exports, law enforcement in terms of control of international crime and illegal drugs, and issues related to democracy and human rights and also the issues of global and mutual understanding. The IRC is a public diplomacy tool under the direction of the Public Affairs Officer of the American Consulate Karachi.

 
IRC SERVICES
The IRC also provides background information and links on popular topics for students and teachers in the Digital Publications section of the U.S. Consulate Karachi web site.

Please check with the Information Resource Specialist for research assistance, by calling 021-5685170-79 ext. 3340 or 3360 Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on American and Pakistani holidays. The IRC is not open to visitors, but its, resources are used by IRC staff to conduct research on request.  IRC resources are intended to meet the needs of government officials, journalists, researchers and others with professional level interest in the United States and related subjects. Electronic resources range from general reference materials to specialized collections of government documents and related material on international relations, the U.S. economy and contemporary American politics and society.

The AIRC also offers Pakistani businessmen information on U.S. companies, U.S. products and services.  Business information services are available not only to Pakistani businessmen, but also to Pakistani business associations and government organizations.

A quick-Reference Service, broadly covering subjects related to the United States is provided on 021-5685170, ext. 3340 and 3360. Queries are accepted by telephone, e-mail, and fax during Office hours.
