Douglas
C. Rohn became the American Consul General in Karachi in July 2003.
In twenty-five years in the Foreign Service Mr. Rohn has served
in eight countries on three different continents.
Mr.
Rohn's first overseas assignment was as a Consular Officer at the
American Embassy in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, which was
followed by a tour as General Services Officer at the Embassy in
Asuncion, Paraguay. His next posting was in Washington DC where he
served as Special Assistant to an Assistant Secretary of State and
later as a Desk Officer in the Caribbean Office.
In
1988 he was assigned to USAID Cameroon as Executive Officer, the
first of a series of management level tours in Africa: Director of
the Joint Administrative Office Yaounde, Cameroon, Nigeria as
Administrative Officer; Charge d'Affaires in Equatorial Guinea;
Gambia as Deputy Chief of Mission, and then Deputy Chief of Mission
in Niger.
In
2001, Mr. Rohn was appointed Deputy Director of the Office of
African Analysis at the State Department. In early 2003, he was
transferred to Islamabad where he served as Special Advisor to the
Ambassador.
Mr.
Rohn holds a Bachelor's and a Master’s degree in Public
Administration from Portland State University, Portland, Oregon.
Before joining the Foreign Service he served in the U.S. Army in
Vietnam 1968 - 69 and worked for the U.S. Veterans Administration
for four years.
Mr. Rohn and his wife Diane have three children,
Benjamin, a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, Sarah, an attorney and
Jessica, a university senior majoring in International Studies and
French.
