Security Traffic Checkpoint Plan

Security Checkpoint Plan

Due to recent events and in conjunction with ongoing security initiatives, the US Capitol Police have instituted new security measures at the Capitol complex. In an effort to remain proactive with security on our campus the following measures will be in effect to increase safety and security for everyone at the Capitol.

There will be checkpoints for all vehicles entering Capitol grounds and access points for authorized vehicles.  These vehicle security checkpoints will be in place at the following locations:

  • Second Street and C Street, NE
  • Second Street at Constitution Avenue, NE
  • Second Street and Maryland Avenue, NE
  • Maryland and Constitution crossover, NE
  • Second Street and A Street, NE
  • Second Street at East Capitol Street, NE
  • Second at East Capitol Street, SE
  • Independence Ave Second Street, SE
  • Independence Ave and Washington Ave, SW
  • Maryland Ave and Third Street, SW
  • Pennsylvania Ave and Third Street, NW
  • Constitution and Louisiana Ave, NW
  • First Street at Louisiana Ave, NW
  • New Jersey Ave and C Street, NW

The following street will be closed:

  • First Street, NE between Constitution Avenue and D Street, NE

Traffic delays may result from these security enhancements.  Patient cooperation is requested of all Congressional employees and visitors.  Information updates will be posted on the Senate Sergeant at Arms and U.S. Capitol Police message lines, on the Senate's intranet and Senate.gov.

Capitol tours are unaffected by the new Security Traffic Checkpoint Plan.
