An Activity Book for African American Families: Helping Children Cope with Crisis

Activity Book for African American Families coverWe are all looking for ways to help our children cope with the fears and uncertainties that are part of our world.

This new activity book, from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), provides information and resources that can help parents instill a sense of safety in their children during times of crisis.

An Activity Book for African American Families: Helping Children Cope with Crisis was developed with input from parents, from health care providers, and from national leaders of the following organizations:

  • 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
  • American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • American Psychiatric Association
  • Congress of National Black Churches, Inc.
  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
  • Jack and Jill or American, Inc.
  • National Association of Black Social Workers
  • National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.
  • National Medical Association

The activities featured in this book can help to:

  • Enhance communication in families to provide strength and comfort in tough times
  • Teach your child how to express thoughts and feelings in positive, constructive ways
  • Encourage important everyday values that can strengthen your child from within
