This email service allows you to receive up-to-date public announcements and travel warnings that may have a direct impact on your safety and security. All Americans in Germany are invited to join.
U.S. embassies and consulates overseas traditionally use warden systems to transmit important public announcements and travel warnings to Americans abroad. Public announcements are a means to disseminate information about terrorist threats and other relatively short-term and/or trans-national conditions posing significant risks to the security of American travelers. In the past, public announcements have been issued to deal with short-term coups, bomb threats to airlines, violence by terrorists and anniversary dates of specific terrorist events. Travel warnings are issued when the State Department decides, based on all relevant information, to recommend that Americans avoid travel to a certain country.
Traditional warden systems rely upon the efforts of dedicated volunteers to spread the word among Americans living in the area. The e-mail service provides an efficient way for the Department of State to quickly contact Americans in Germany.
This service will be used for official purposes only. Most messages broadcast will directly relate to your safety or security. Recent public announcements concerning the possibility of terrorist threats targeted against Americans are an example of the new service's usefulness. We may also, upon occasion, use the service to transmit information of general interest to Americans in Germany, including announcements concerning taxes and voter registration.
