Voice of America


The Voice of America, or VOA, is a global radio network operated by the United States Information Agency in Washington, D.C. VOA broadcasts news, talk, editorials, current affairs, and cultural and entertainment programs in English and more than 50 other languages. VOA has 17 correspondent bureaus around the world and ten domestic bureaus. VOA reaches about 90 million listeners through shortwave transmissions, plus millions more over the Internet and through rebroadcasts on local affiliate stations in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. VOA IN INDIA

The Voice of America's South Asia Bureau, based in New Delhi, is headed by a South Asia Bureau chief. The South Asia Bureau covers news events in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. Its correspondent provides voiced reports for VOA's 24-hour Worldwide English service, and scrips are often translated and broadcast by VOA language services. VOA transmits English broadcasts via shortwave to India from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. VOA also transmits morning and evening shows via shortwave to the Indian subcontinent in Bangla, Hindi and Urdu.
