For Vendors
NCI welcomes involvement of commercial groups in the caBIG pilot initiative. To date, many commercial organizations and some not-for-profit organizations have participated in caBIG activities on a voluntary basis or met with National Cancer Institute (NCI) representatives to discuss their interest in the caBIG initiative. These organizations include information technology companies, large-scale software vendors, pharmaceutical companies, and biotech companies as well as small, specialized ventures. Participation varies from occasional involvement in open meetings to regular involvement with specific caBIG Workspace and Working Group activities. Some commercial groups with particular expertise in specific caBIG Workspaces are participating as unfunded Working Group members.
At this stage, commercial organizations are welcome to participate on a voluntary basis. There is currently no direct funding for commercial organizations to undertake caBIG pilot project activities, as the primary participants of the caBIG pilot are NCI-designated Cancer Centers. Opportunities for more directly funded involvement in caBIG project activities may emerge at a later date as the caBIG effort progresses.
