Responsibilities
• Protects the interests of U.S. citizens in the Consular Agency's area of responsibility (specifically, Bremen and Bremerhaven), i.e., conduct welfare/whereabouts inquiries, visit prisoners, monitor local police and judicial authorities on behalf of U.S. citizens.
• Assists U.S. citizens who are hospitalized, destitute, or otherwise in need of immediate information or advice.
• Assists families of deceased U.S. citizens, including repatriation of remains, obtaining local documents and assisting with the protection of estates on behalf of the responsible consular officer.
• Executes applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, passports and passport extensions.
• Acts as an extension of the supervisory post's consular section in efforts to detect and combat citizenship fraud.
Executes notarials.
• Assists Mission elements and VIPs visiting the area.
• Supports other embassy activities which might include commercial activities, political contact work, public diplomacy, and/or military ship visits.
• Develops a wide range of contacts to effectively carry out the above-mentioned responsibilities.
