The consulate general provides a full range of consular and passport services, including:
Issuing Passports
• Issuance, renewal and replacement of U.S. passports upon proof of identity and citizenship. Renewal by mail is possible in some cases; phone for information.
• Lost or Stolen Passports: Issuance of a replacement passport for a lost or stolen passport. Depending on the circumstances, a limited validity passport may be issued.
• Additional Passport Pages: With a valid passport, insertion of additional official passport pages for use for visas, etc.
Reports of American Citizen Birth Abroad
Formal document certifying the acquisition of U.S. citizenship at birth of a person born abroad. This document is full proof of U.S. citizenship under U.S. law.
Notarial Services
• Acknowledgements: Acknowledgement of a signature on documents for use in the United States. Used with deeds, powers of attorney, bills of sale, corporate acknowledgements, etc.
• Affidavits: Written declaration made under oath or affirmation; a sworn statement. Examples: marriage affidavit ("Ledigkeitsbescheinigung"), paternity affidavit, affidavit concerning lost passport, etc.
• Note: We cannot authenticate U.S. documents such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, death certificate, etc. Under the Hague Convention, an "apostille" by a U.S. clerk of court of a State Secretary or State certifies authenticity of a U.S. document.
Registration with the Embassy
We encourage U.S. citizens resident in our consular district to register at the Consulate. Registration can help with renewing a lost or stolen passport, assist with notification in the event of an emergency, and provide a record of residency. Please visit our registration home page.

Registration for Social Security and Selective Service. More Information about federal benefits such as assistance with claims for social security benefits may be obtained from the consulate general in Frankfurt.
Voter Information
Providing voter information and assisting with voter registration.
Reports of Death
Official notice of the death of a U.S. citizen abroad, may be used in the settlement of legal and estate matters.
Other general information, for American citizens for the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen, Mecklenberg-Vorpommern, and Lower Saxony.
