General Information on Employment in the U.S.

Permission to work in the United States must be obtained through the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The Embassy does not have the authority to grant general work permits. In all cases permission to work must be obtain by an employer who wishes to hire you. Although we cannot give you all of the details, briefly you must:

  • Find an employer in the United States who wants to hire you. The Embassy cannot help you with this, you must find the employer yourself.

  • Have the employer file a petition at the appropriate authorities in the United States to get permission for you to work. This can be done by contacting the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the United States.
Please note that the Embassy cannot help you find an employer, nor can it help you get a work permit. The Embassy can only help you after the Immigration and Naturalization Service has approved your petition for a work permit.
