Swedish Fulbright Commission
Educational Advising Services:
The Swedish Fulbright Commission offers grants to Swedish graduate students and visiting lecturers/research scholars to study, lecture, or conduct research in the United States. It also provides educational advising services on studying in the United States. The following information describes the advising services of the Commission. For general information on the Commission and its grants, please see the separate sheet.
The Fulbright Commission has university catalogs, university guides and handbooks, test preparation material, videos on American universities, and reference books on financial aid.
There are qualified educational advisers who offer unbiased, comprehensive and professional information about all accredited schools in the United States.
Services are provided on the phone and by mail. Visitors are welcome, but must book an appointment in advance. Material can be ordered by mail. Simply follow the instructions below:
For information about studying in the United States after completion of a Swedish "gymnasieexamen" but before completion of a Swedish university degree (= undergraduate level):
- Send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (a large envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 11.00 in postage, and mark the envelope PSU. A document entitled "Preparing for Undergraduate Study in the United States" will be sent by return mail. In the document there is a questionnaire which, if returned to the Commission according to the instructions given, will entitle you to receive a free 612-page book entitled "Applying to Colleges and Universities in the United States." In this first set of material, you will receive general information and instructions on the process of applying to schools in the United States. There is also information on the tests which are required.

For application forms for the following tests, follow the instructions below:
TOEFL (Test of English as A Foreign Language):
- Send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 22.00 in postage, and mark the envelope TOEFL. You will receive the TOEFL Bulletin, which contains and information on how to register for the test. More information can be found at www.toefl.org.
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test):
- There are two tests. One is entitled SAT I and the other is SAT II. You should check the test requirements of the universities to which you intend to apply to find out if you must take the SAT I and which, if any, SAT II subject test you should take. For the SAT I or SAT II, send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 22.00 in postage, and mark the envelope SAT I or SAT II. For both the SAT I and SAT II, send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 33.00 in postage, and mark the envelope SAT I and II. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test):
- This test is usually required of students intending to study for a master's of business administration (MBA). Send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 22.00 in postage, and mark the envelope GMAT. You will receive the "GMAT Bulletin and Registration Form". More information on the test can be found at www.gmat.org.
GRE (Graduate Record Examination):
- This test is usually required of students intending to study at the graduate level, except for students in business administration. Send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 22.00 in postage, and mark the envelope GRE. You will receive the "GRE Information and Registration Bulletin". More information on the test can be found at www.gre.org.
If you need both the TOEFL and one of the other tests, be sure to check the postage requirements and to carefully mark the envelope so that we know exactly what test material you want.
CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools):
- This test is usually required of nurses with a non-U.S. education who want to work in the U.S. The TOEFL test is also required.

ECFMG/USMLE (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates/United States Medical Licensing Examination):
- This is a joint pamphlet for foreign medical graduates and for medical licensure in the United States. Send a self-addressed C4-size envelope (an envelope for A4 documents) with SEK 33.00 in postage, and mark the envelope USMLE. You will receive the booklet entitled "Information Booklet--ECFMG Certification and Application/USMLE Bulletin of Information ", as well as the TOEFL Bulletin.
