Visa Information

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is not yet processing visa applications by the general public. Iraqi citizens and other nationals residing in Iraq must apply for a U.S. visa outside of Iraq. Any U.S. diplomatic post that currently processes visa applications will accept visa applications from Iraqi citizens or residents of Iraq who can personally appear at that post. Currently, Amman, Jordan, processes many of the visa applications from Iraqi citizens or residents of Iraq seeking to the travel to the U.S. The Consular Section at U.S. Embassy Baghdad cannot assist Iraqis to enter another country for the purpose of applying for a nonimmigrant visa.

Applicants for a U.S. visa are required to possess a travel document or passport valid at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States. To obtain an interim travel document or passport valid for travel, Iraqi citizens should contact the passport issuing authority in Iraq for assistance.

For more information about applying for a visa to the U.S. and documentation requirements, please visit Travel.State.Gov's Visa Section. For general visa information, please visit UnitedStatesVisas.gov. Visa applicants should refer to Embassy Consular Section websites, available at Travel.State.Gov's Listing of U.S. Embassies and Consulates Worldwide, to learn about interview scheduling and fee payment procedures, determine visa-processing timeframes, and find out if there are any additional documentation items required. To apply in Amman, Jordan, visit the U.S. Embassy in Amman's Consular Section.

The Consular Section at U.S. Embassy Baghdad is working to make visa processing available in Iraq as soon as practicable to the Iraqi public. An official announcement will be made regarding the commencement of visa services. We anticipate that visa processing will begin with nonimmigrant applications (for temporary visitors) on an appointment-only basis.
