Zarqawi Group Formally Designated Terrorists by State Department
Decision involves United States, international asset blocks, travel bans

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's group of radical Islamic terrorists is formally designated as a terrorist organization under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist under Executive Order 13224. Because of the network's links to al-Qaida, the United States and others are asking the U.N. 1267 Sanctions Committee to add the group to its list of terrorist groups subject to international sanctions. (complete text)



U.S. Condemns Deadly Terrorist Bombings in Baghdad October 14
Says United States will persevere in helping to rebuild Iraq

The United States condemned the two terrorist bombings that killed 10 people in the International Zone (Green Zone) of Baghdad October 14.
"We ... condemn these terrorist attacks," said State Department spokesman Richard Boucher in Washington October 14.
