ADVENTURE PASS

What Is It?

The Adventure Pass (see Adventure Pass website) is a recreation use pass within the Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres and San Bernardino National Forests in southern California. Visitors must display the Aventure Pass in their vehicles when parked on the Forest for recreation purposes - picnicking, skiing, hiking, snow-play, hunting, fishing, etc. The Adventure Pass is not required for just traveling through the forests without stopping, stopping for information, or parking at places where a site-specific fee is already charged.

Annual Adventure Passes cost $30, and the Day Pass cost is $5.00. Owners of annual Adventure Passes may purchase one (1) Second Vehicle Pass, which costs $5.00. The original Annual Adventure Pass must be presented to the seller for verification when buying the Second Vehicle Pass. Expiration dates for both the Annual and Second Vehicle Passes run concurrently, meaning the Second Vehicle Pass will be validated by the seller to expire on the same date (month) as the original Annual Pass, no matter when it is bought. Tip: When buying the Annual Adventure Pass, buy it near the first of the month, thereby getting 13 months of use (since Annuals expire at the end of the month of purchase the following year). Also, consider buying your Second Vehicle Pass at the same time, for the same reasons.

Owners of Golden Age and Golden Access Passports no longer receive a 50% discount on purchase of the Adventure Pass. This policy change resulted from the implementation of the new National Golden Passport Program. All Golden Passports now cover the basic parking and use fees of the Adventure Pass Program. Owners of these Golden Passports no longer need Adventure Passes. The former promotional package (Buy a Golden Eagle - Get a Free Annual Adventure Pass) has been discontinued as of April 1st, 2003.

PAYETTE RIVER RECREATION PASS

What Is It?

In May 1998, the Boise National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management Lower Snake River District established a recreation fee demonstration program on the Payette River. Under the program, river users may purchase an annual pass for $30.00 or a daily pass for $3.00. The passes allow you to park and use facilities at the Deer Creek, Danksin, Banks, Banks Beach, Chief Parrish, Beehive Bend, and Deadwood Campground river access sites. As of 2001, the Visit Idaho Playgrounds (VIP) pass is accepted in place of a river pass.

Under the recreation fee demonstration program, all of the money that is generated by the sale of annual and day passes is used to maintain and enhance recreational facilities and services along the Payette River corridor. In addition, the recreation fee demonstration program has allowed the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management to keep the fees that outfitters and guides pay to operate on the Payette River to maintain and improve the corridor instead of returning them to the general treasury as was previously required. You can view more information on their website at: Payette River Recreation Pass.
