United States Mint Director Joins Celebrations of 125th Anniversary of the Invention of the Light Bulb

United States Mint Director Henrietta Holsman Fore will participate in a gala event Saturday, October 16, in Huron, Ohio, to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Invention of the Light Bulb by Thomas Alva Edison.

Director Fore also will participate in a news conference and rededication of a historic monument to Edison in Port Huron, Mich., on Sunday, October 17. Interviews may be scheduled beforehand. The 2004 Thomas Alva Edison Commemorative Coin, including the Thomas Alva Edison Collector’s Set, featuring an uncirculated Edison Silver Dollar in a special presentation case, which illuminates when opened, will be on sale in Huron, Ohio, and Port Huron, Michigan.

What and Who:

Gala dinner and celebration in Huron, Ohio - Director Fore joins United States Representative Paul E. Gillmor, the sponsor of the legislation authorizing the Thomas Alva Edison Commemorative Coin, and keynote speaker Mickey Rooney, who starred as the inventor in the movie “Young Thomas Edison” at this event hosted by the Edison Birthplace Museum.

Press conference at the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron, Mich. - Director Fore is available for interviews and photos. Others to participate include: United States Senator Carl Levin, United States Representative Candice Miller, Michigan State Representative Steve Bieda.

Rededication ceremony at the Port Huron Museum, Port Huron, Mich. - Director Fore will join actor Mickey Rooney, area radio personality Lee Hanson and descendants of Edison in Pine Grove Park at the Port Huron Museum for the rededication of the historic monument that was erected in 1929 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of light bulb invention. The 62-ton granite boulder marks the site where Edison lived for nine years as a youth.

When:

Gala dinner, 7 p.m. Saturday, October 16.

Press conference, 2 p.m., and rededication ceremony, 4:30 p.m., Sunday, October 17.

Gala dinner and celebration - Cedar Point Conference Center at Bowling Green State University, Firelands Campus, One University Drive, Huron, Ohio.

News conference: Thomas Edison Inn, 500 Thomas Edison Pkwy., Port Huron, Mich.

Rededication ceremony: Pine Grove Park, Port Huron Museum, 1115 Sixth St., Port Huron, Mich.
