Brain SPOREs
Brain cancer continues to affect thousands of patients regardless of their age. Benign,
malignant or secondary (metastatic) brain tumors constitute a major therapeutic challenge.
Seventeen thousand new cases are expected to emerge in the US population and 13,100 patients
are estimated to die of brain cancer in the year 2002. The SPORE program introduced Brain Cancer
SPOREs in the year 2001. From the first solicitation, two groups are currently being funded and
new grant applications are planned to be accepted in the years 2003 and 2005.
