Lymphoma SPOREs

American Cancer Society estimates 60,900 new case of lymphoma in the year 2002. Of these, 53,900 are expected to be non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and 7,000 cases of Hodgkin's disease. Along this estimates, 25,800 people will dye of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and 1,400 of Hodgkin's disease in the year 2002. Since the year 1970, the incidence of lymphomas nearly doubled. A stabilization of this trend in the years 1992-98 was observed (except in black females) and there was a decline of Hodgkin's disease incidence since late 1980's. Despite these favorable trends, lymphomas remain a serious medical problem affecting thousands of individuals. The SPORE program introduced Lymphoma SPOREs in the year 2001. As a result, two Lymphoma SPOREs will be funded in the year 2002.
