Have you noticed that your dinner, your homework or family television time hasn't been interrupted by a phone call from someone trying to sell something to your parents?  That's because the FCC and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have set up a Do Not Call List.  That means that if your parents signed up, telemarketers (phone sales people) are not allowed to call.  Read more about this issue at http://www.fcc.gov/donotcall.

image for Wireless Local Number Portability, telephones and phone numbers
Last year, the FCC passed some rules, called Wireless Local Number Portability, that allows you, your friends and family to change wireless telephone companies and still keep the same number.  As long as your stay within the same local area, you do not have to get a new telephone number.  Before this rule was passed, every time you changed phone companies, you had to get a totally different phone number.  Now, you can even move your number from a wireline phone to a wireless phone or from a wireless phone to a wireline.  Read more about this at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/NumberPortability/.
