Office of General Counsel
The Office of General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission serves as the chief legal advisor to the Commission and to its various bureaus and offices. The General Counsel also represents the Commission in litigation in federal courts, recommends decisions in adjudicatory matters before the Commission, assists the Commission in its decision making capacity and performs a variety of legal functions regarding internal and other administrative matters.
On February 7, 2003, Chairman Michael Powell named John A. Rogovin General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission. He is the twenty-fifth General Counsel of the FCC since the agency's formation in 1934. Paula Michele Ellison, Linda I. Kinney and Austin C. Schlick are Deputy General Counsels, Richard K. Welch is Associate General Counsel, Jacob Lewis is Associate General Counsel (Counselor to the General Counsel) and John P. Stanley is Assistant General Counsel.
