Fusion

The Department of Energy, through the Fusion Energy Sciences Office in the Office of Science seeks to advance plasma science and fusion science and technology. The department’s programs emphasize the underlying basic research in plasma and fusion sciences, with the long-term goal of harnessing fusion as a viable energy source. The programs support research to understand the physics of plasmas; to identify and explore innovative and cost-effective development paths to fusion energy; and as a partner in international efforts, to advance the science and technology of energy-producing plasmas.
