The Office of the Scientific Director supports several programs designed to promote responsible conduct in research. Located within the Division of Intramural Research at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the Office coordinates educational activities, training workshops, and conferences on ethical issues in environmental health research. The Office of the Scientific Director works closely with the NIEHS Institutional Review Board, the Office of Clinical Research, the Office of the Director, and the NIEHS Division of Extramural Research to develop institutional policies that promote research integrity.
The Office also conducts interdisciplinary research on ethical, legal, and social issues in environmental health research, spanning such fields as environmental toxicology, cancer research, and environmental genomics.
