Environmental Research Laboratories
- Aeronomy Laboratory - Atmospheric chemistry, physics,
and dynamics, focusing on air quality,
stratospheric ozone depletion, and climate change.
- Air Resources Laboratory - Transport, dispersion,
air surface exchange and transformation of pollutants and aerosols, and relation
to air quality, emergency preparedness and response, and climate trends.
-
Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory - Atmospheric chemistry; observations related to climate change, hurricane
research, fisheries recruitment, and nutrient enrichment.
- Climate Diagnostics Center - Diagnostic
studies of climate variability; data management systems for observational and model-generated data.
-
Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics Laboratory - Long-term measurement and analysis of greenhouse gases, aerosols and ozone,
related to climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion.
-
Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory -
Observation and process studies in oceanography, marine meteorology, and
related subjects.
- Environmental Technology Laboratory -
Development, demonstration, and transfer of cost-effective remote
measurement systems for weather, climate, and coastal applications.
-
Forecast Systems Laboratory -
Performs exploratory system development, validates operational
prototypes, and transfers technology in atmospheric and oceanic science
to the operational elements of NOAA and other organizations.
-
Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory -
Develops numerical models related to weather, climate and ocean
predictability.
-
Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory -
Integrated, interdisciplinary research on coastal, estuarine, and Great
Lakes environments, in support of management.
- National Severe Storms Laboratory
- Numerical and conceptual models of storms and studies of mesoscale weather
processes.
National Undersea Research Centers
- National Undersea Research
Center for the Caribbean
- located at the Caribbean Marine Research Center, Vero Beach, Fla.
The Center provides research support facilities at Lee Stocking
Island, Bahamas and maintains laboratory facilities at
Vero Beach, Fla.
-
National Undersea Research Center for Hawaii and Pacific
- located at the University of Hawaii; mission is to study deep
water marine processes in the Pacific Ocean.
-
Mid-Atlantic Bight National Undersea Research Center
- located at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, Rutgers
University, New Brunswick, N.J.; established in 1992 to promote and
support quality undersea research in the Mid-Atlantic Bight, a
region which extends from Montauk, N.Y., to the Virginia/North Carolina border.
-
North Atlantic & Great Lakes National Undersea Research Center
- located at the University of Connecticut; supports and
conducts research in the waters off the northeast coast of the
U.S and the Laurentian Great Lakes.
-
National Undersea Research Center for the Southeastern U.S. and
Gulf of Mexico - conducts undersea research in the South
Atlantic Bight (NC to Fla.), the Florida Keys and the Gulf of Mexico.
-
West Coast & Polar Regions National Undersea
Research Center -
established in 1990 to promote, facilitate, and support
undersea research along the West Coast of the U.S. and polar regions.
