Smith Votes Against Military Draft


October 5, 2004 -Rep. Smith released the following statement on legislation he voted against that would bring back the draft:

“We do not require a draft because recruiting and retention rates remain strong.  All four military services continue to meet their active duty goals.

“The United States has the most advanced fighting force in the world in part because our soldiers are true volunteers.”
