Research Services

NOAA Central Library's collections are available for on-site use or through interlibrary loan services of other libraries. Services are provided by telephone, inter-office mail, FAX, US mail, and express service or special courier (for rush requests).

A valid Department of Commerce Identification Card is required to borrow materials. Other users may borrow materials through the interlibrary loan department of their organization or public libraries.

New books and technical reports are displayed for one week, then they may be borrowed. Books and technical reports may be borrowed for 30 days and may be renewed once if there is no waiting list. Reference books, periodicals, data sheets, and pamphlets do not circulate.

  • Compilation and assessment of scientific, technical, and legislative documents in support of NOAA's scientific research and technological development programs.

  • Computer-based information retrieval of citations and full text from more than 500 databases.

  • The Library Catalog contains holdings of NOAA libraries and other related scientific libraries throughout the country.

  • Interlibrary borrowing and lending through the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC).
