U.S. AMBASSADOR UNVEILS NEW AIDS LOGO

AIDS logo Nairobi, 5 December 2001 - U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Johnnie Carson announced this afternoon that a new anti-AIDS logo is being placed on U.S. Embassy vehicles in order to mark U.S. support for the campaign against HIV/AIDS, to help broaden public awareness of the threat posed by the killer disease, and to spur individual behavior change.

The newly-designed logo with the message "STOP AIDS - FACE IT - IT STARTS WITH YOU" will also be used by Kenya-based American companies, Kenyan businesses and NGOs, and will be shared with the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) for their public awareness efforts.

Minister of State William ole Ntimama, NACC officials, members of the American Business Association (ABA) and various AIDS activists participated in the unveiling ceremony, which took place on Wednesday afternoon at the U.S. Embassy on Mombasa Road.

Ambassador Carson and Minister Ntimama, along with ABA officials placed the foot-square logo on a U.S. Embassy van and on vehicles from Energizer/Eveready and IBM.

The Ambassador and his guests then viewed an assortment of delivery trucks and other corporate vehicles, already bearing the emblem, parked near the Embassy gate. UPS, Sara Lee, Coca Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, General Motors, Kobil, Citibank, Caltex, J.A.R. Jordache, the AON Corporation and others were represented among the trucks and vans assembled at the Embassy gate.

The logo itself was produced by Population Services International and designed by the Design Factory in Nairobi. Additional copies of the anti-AIDS logo will be available for use by Kenya-based organizations and associations through the Embassy's Public Affairs Section.
