NIMH's goal is to generate research that will transform the prevention of and recovery from mental disorders. To achieve this, we have re-evaluated NIMH priorities and reorganized our extramural research program structure. This will enable us to fully exploit recent scientific breakthroughs, increase cross-disciplinary collaboration, and facilitate translation of basic science discoveries into new interventions.
The NIMH extramural research programs have been reorganized into five divisions (from the previous three). This page provides a description of each new division, its branches, and its programs that support research funding, including areas of emphasis (all in PDF file format). These changes are effective October 1, 2004.
For more specifics about your research interests, we encourage you to contact the relevant program officers, as listed in the descriptions, by phone or e-mail. You can also stay updated on the latest research and funding opportunities by signing up for the NIMH Funding Opportunities Listserv.
Current grantees: Please note that as part of the reorganization, some current grants have been reassigned to a new division. If you need help determining your current grant assignment, please call your program officer.
