NEI Director Writes to Dear Abby

A letter from Dr. Paul Sieving, director of the National Eye Institute, appeared in the August 15, 2004 Dear Abby column. Dr. Sieving shared information about age-related macular degeneration (AMD), an eye disease that can blur the vision we need for "straight-ahead" activities, like reading, sewing and driving. He encouraged anyone who suspects that they have a vision problem to see an eye care professional as soon as possible.

For additional information on AMD, please visit the following pages on our website:

If you've already lost vision, make the most of your remaining sight by using low vision services and devices.
