Definition:
An airborne radar system in which a long, narrow, stabilized antenna, aligned parallel to the motion of an aircraft or satellite, projects radiation at right angles to the flight path. It collects extremely fine-resolution photography and mapping of the ground surface. [Glossary of Geology, 4th ed.]
