About side-scan sonar methods:

Definition: Producing images of the seafloor by capturing the backscatter of acoustical signals from pulsed sound waves. Each transmitted pulse acquires images in a narrow band of the seafloor perpendicular to the ship’s track. Overlapping images are matched to produce a continuous representation of the area.
